Turmeric (Curcuma Longa)

Turmeric is a popular ancient spice in the family Zingiberaceae, a native of south East Asia, particularly India and Indonesia. Plants are gathered each year for their rhizomes. The whole turmeric is a tuberous fleshy rhizome with rough, segmented skin.it is a part of the plant that is typically harvested and used in various forms for its vibrant yellow colour, warm bitter taste and health benefits. The rhizomes are used fresh or boiled in water and dried, after which they are ground into a deep orange-yellow powder. Curcumin, is a bright yellow chemical produced by the turmeric plant which has anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

It is available in various forms like turmeric finger dried, powder, capsule, extract and TBC.

Red Chilli (Capsicum annuum)

Chilli is a species of the plant genus Capsicum native to America. It is also known as red pepper or hot pepper. It is a popular spice used in dishes around the world for its pungent, heat and unique flavour. Besides its taste it has many nutritional benefits. Capsaicin is a compound that is primarily found in the membrane that holds the seeds. Higher capsaicin leads to hotter taste and add more nutrition to the food.

Red chilli is available in forms like red chilli whole dried, powder and flakes.

Cinnamon (Cinnamon)

Cinnamon is a spice obtained from the inner bark of tropical tree species from the genus Cinnamomum. Cinnamon comes in ‘quills’, strips of bark rolled one in another. There actually are two kinds of cinnamon Cinnamomum cassia, which is native to China and Cinnamomum verum, also known as true cinnamon or Ceylon cinnamon, comes primarily from Sri Lanka.

Cinnamon is harvested from the peels of the inner bark of a Cinnamomum tree. The peels are left out to dry and curl up naturally into quills, also known as cinnamon sticks. The quills can then be ground into powder or processed to make cinnamon oil, cinnamon extract, and other cinnamon products.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale)

Ginger is a herbaceous perennial plant of the family Zingiberaceae probably native to south-eastern Asia . its pungent aromatic rhizome (underground stem) used as a spice, flavouring, food, and medicine.

Ginger is propagated by planting rootstalk cuttings and has been under this type of cultivation for so long. Harvesting is done simply by lifting the rhizomes from the soil, cleansing them, and drying them in the sun.

Ginger is available whole, sliced, cracked and ground

Black Pepper (Piper nigrum)

Black pepper is a flowering vine in the family Piperaceae, cultivated for its fruit which is usually dried and used as a spice and seasoning. Black pepper is native to South India and other tropical regions . The fruit, known as a peppercorn when dried, is a small drupe , dark red when fully mature, containing a single seed.

Pepper is known for its spicy aroma and hot pungent taste. It gets its spicy heat mostly from the piperine compound, which is found both in the outer fruit and in the seed.To produce black pepper the berries are plucked when they have not yet fully matured. The green berries are then dried in the sun for several days, during which the fruit around the seed shrinks and darkens into a thin, wrinkled black layer around the seed.

Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum)

Fenugreek is a robust herb and has light green leaves. The plant produces slender, beaked pods, each pod contains about 10 to 12 small, hard yellowish-brown seeds. The seed is produced as a spice. After the seeds mature the plants are uprooted and dried, so that the seeds then can be threshed, winnowed, dried once more and stored.

Fenugreek seeds are available whole and ground.
